The Origin of Spam

When logging into my WordPress dashboard, I see a lot of useful information about my website, as well as some less useful information in the form of articles (from WordPress).

Or so I thought! Today, one of these articles caught my eye, so I had a look. It turned out to be an informative video about the history of spam. This might not seem particularly interesting to everyone, BUT it also explained the origin of the use of the word ‘spam’ to describe unsolicited messages. Which, to be honest, I hadn’t really ever thought about. It has always just been ‘spam’ to me. If you have a look at the video below, I believe you’ll find out why you should be interested in the connection between Spam the tinned meat and spam the unsolicited message.

There you have it! The reason we call spam spam! I hadn’t even thought about, let alone thinking that it would be related to Monty Python! If you want to read a bit more about the origin of spam, check out the Wikipedia article here or you could just do a google search…
